Missile defense is fine—possibly even necessary for our long-term survival as a nation—but only if we are willing to share it with others, including and above all China and Russia. Missile defense should be no different than AIDS medications. We should sell it to those who can pay, and give it away to those who cannot. To do so would completely derail any possible arguments against missile defense from countries fearful of U.S. power (North Korea), or just jealous (France). To offer the shield to all countries would make the United States real champions of peace.
