Ahh, I got to it. You know I think the first Hell Raiser is worthy of a full cold bacon review. People forget that the original wasn't some sort of campy bullshit monster movie. The cinobytes were just an element of the story and had almost no screen time. It was closer to the original Dracula, but with the morals of the early to mid '80's. Basically if Lucy had just said, yeah your undead and you eat people, but your a great lay, so fuck it. That's the Clive Barker Hell Raiser story.

Same thing with the Friday the 13th series. Does anyone even remember that the original was about a mom getting revenge for the death of her kid, and had nothing to do with a supernatural man-thing with a machete fetish? And has anyone considered the fact that by making Jason the central character you've completely removed the motivation behind the original movie? I mean, why was the mom so pissed off? Apparently if you drown while teenagers are having sex, you don't die. Instead you become basically immortal and gain super strength. Who doesn't want that? So what was the mom's beef?

Why does all good horror have to turn to campy crap?

I'm not sure I've gotten to that part yet. Where is it? Or should I not spoil the surprise.

you saw the plug for hellraiser in there?

yes. the line i quoted (you will of course recognize) is actually from hellraiser II and not I. but i took the liberty of just lumping the films together en bloc. i think it's okay to do that as long as you are in support of something. then that something will not mind if you take a liberty.

in summary: i would probably never have seen hellraiser (and 90% of all horror films i've seen) if you had not rented it. i remember when i first saw hellraiser. was the old playroom on longbow, on vhs. wow.
