Transition from carnival to open long shot of town street. The long shot cutting to the close up of the band in the street—loud to quiet suddenly to loud fading back to quiet. The scene essentially creates that feeling of getting out of a pool in summer time. Vibrant melancholy.
Contrast is important.
Technicolor is important.
This is a beautiful film.
It's Barry Lyndon on crack rock. It's got Rio, carnival, costumes, dancing, heat, sweat, the Spanish guitar, romance, little boys and suspense. It just seems more appropriate to watch this movie standing up. You may have to sit down once or twice in the middle, but you'll be up again by the end.
