Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Billy Joel died this weekend from acute kidney failure caused by severe alcoholic myopathy. Despite having spent ten days in rehab last year, Joel had repeatedly insisted he was not an alcoholic, though he admitted to being an “alcohol abuser.” By the age of 54, Joel had earned six Grammys, 14 platinum albums, and the distinction of being the third best-selling solo artist of all time. Recently Joel had taken a break from touring to spend more time with his daughter Alexa. Joel was pronounced dead at Stony Brook University Hospital on Sunday morning. Billy Joel was 55. Alexa is 7.
